Description
In this earthy interpretation of Pimpernel, muted brown and khaki tones meet a dark brown background, giving the pattern a warm and cozy character. The large tulips appear in cream and sand beige with delicately rendered details in terracotta, while the small pimpernel flowers softly illuminate the winding foliage. Pimpernel was created by William Morris in 1876 and was his first mirror-image pattern, a design language inspired by his experiences with woven textiles. The pattern later adorned the dining room at Kelmscott House, Morris’s own home on the Thames. Here, the muted color palette lends the large-scale foliage a sense of patina and allows Pimpernel to combine historical richness with a serene, timeless expression.
